Three Foods That Promote Gum Health

Last updated 5 years ago

A nutritious diet and plenty of exercise can do wonders for your health—including your dental and gum health. However, did you know that certain types of foods offer more benefits than others? Here are a few foods are incredibly beneficial for gum health:

1.Green Tea
Green tea has an amazing assortment of antioxidants that help to keep the body’s immune system healthy. This helps to reduce gum inflammation. Additionally, while green tea is beneficial to the entire body in a number of ways, a study from 2009 showed that drinking one cup of green tea per day resulted in a significant reduction in a person’s risk for developing gum disease.

2.Raisins
Small, sweet, and satisfying, raisins are wonderful take-along snacks that keep well without refrigeration. Raisins contain antioxidants that inhibit the growth of bacteria in the mouth. Less bacteria equates to a lower risk of gum disease and better gum health overall.

3.Whole Grains
Adding more whole grains to your diet is a great way to improve your overall health. Evidence has shown that consuming at least four servings of grains per day can lower a person’s risk of gum disease by as much as 23%. Experts believe this may be because of whole grains’ ability to stabilize the blood sugar and regulate the body’s inflammatory response. Now you have a whole new reason to eat that delicious bowl of oatmeal in the morning!
