LANAP Patient Education: FDA Approved Laser Periodontal Surgery For Gum Disease

The LANAP, or Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure, is a technique designed to repair diseased gum tissue caused by periodontal disease. In this video, the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry provides an animation to demonstrate how laser gum treatments eliminate gum disease. 

Your dentist will place the fiber optic tip at the top of your periodontal pocket and begin removing the diseased tissue where the bacteria and plaque reside. Unlike older treatments, the periolase laser targets and selectively eliminates only diseased tissue and bacteria, destroying harmful germs while still leaving healthy tissues intact.
